Create
Creating something out of nothing — that’s something we’ve become pretty adept at doing. And we’re not just talking about marketing and advertising campaigns. We’re referring to the creation of projects, programs and products, where great ideas take the form of tangible operating enterprises that are taken to market. All our initiatives fall in areas that interest us: marketing, media, creativity and sustainability. And our successes are noteworthy.
- We created The Ad Pages, Vancouver’s advertising directory, selling it to Business in Vancouver in 1997.
- We helped found the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, going on to marketing and managing the Festival for over a decade.
- We brought First Night back to Vancouver for the year 2000, producing it to become the only public celebration of New Year’s Eve in the entire City of Vancouver.
- We created, founded and produced Scarlett, a business-lifestyle magazine that celebrates the achievements of women. Scarlett and scarlett.ca operated from 2003-2005.
- We are co-founders of the Leo Awards, marketing and producing this annual awards program for the BC film and television industry since 1999.
- We created, founded and produced 30 Days of Sustainability, a 30-day celebration of sustainability and its natural role in the world. Embedded within 30 Days of Sustainability is Swell, North America’s first eco-design exhibition. This annual program took place from 2005-2008.
- We created, founded and direct the Board of Change, an inclusive, not-for-profit organizational network that exists to develop and foster a new economic model that values the pursuit of sustainability equally with the pursuit of profit.
- We co-founded Dinosaurs Unearthed, North America’s unique dinosaur exhibition company, successfully creating and producing exhibitions in major cities in Canada and the United States. We sold our shares in this company in the spring of 2011.
- We created, founded and are helping to realize Artspoints Rewards, a national loyalty program that supports the arts.
We are often asked why we do this. The smartass answer is: because we can! True, but in reality, it’s a little more complex than that. We do it because something has triggered us to do good, to move an ideal forward, to possibly change the world. Plus, the challenge to successfully bring a project to fruition — using the skills, time and talent at our disposal — and make it sustainable is always a key motivator.
